Your Story, Your Wedding, Your Way – how a celebrant can give you choice.

When you’re planning a wedding, you already know you have choices: your venue, your dress, your suits, your photographer, your florist, your stationery, your booze, your DJ or band, whether your dog gets to come, your colour scheme, indoors or outdoors, the date, the season. The choice is yours — that’s a given.

But did you know you also have a choice in how you have your wedding? Yes, there’s a church, there’s a country house, there are tonnes of beautiful venues out there. But why not give your ceremony the same love as the other elements? We don’t want you to have a ceremony that you have to endure, but rather a ceremony that celebrates YOU and everything about your journey. A great wedding celebrant bans the boring and invites the fun, the tears, the laughter and most of all, sets the tone — that’s where I come in.

What Does a Wedding Celebrant Do?

A wedding celebrant gets to know you both, months before your big day. We ask questions, we sit and have copious cups of tea (or a pint in your local). We build a relationship that’s collaborative.

As a celebrant, I’m not here to dictate. I don’t adhere to formal structures or belief systems, so if one of you is from a Hindu background and the other is non-religious but you want to weave both cultures into your day, we can absolutely do that. Want a portrait of your cat on the wall? Done. Want your dog as ring bearer? Brilliant. Fancy symbolic elements like handfasting or a ring warming, using ribbons in your favourite colours? Easy.

Instead of hymns, how about a bit of Rick Astley, or dancing out to “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray? And when it comes to your vows, I can help you write something personal that truly means something — funny and upbeat, or more serious with real pathos. There’s no right or wrong way.

At the heart of every celebrant-led ceremony is your story — and that’s where months of gathering your journey together comes to life. https://www.abifishercelebrant.co.uk

Working With a Wedding Celebrant: What the Timeline Looks Like

  1. Our First Meeting (6–9 Months Before the Wedding) – In person over a brew, or online if that’s easier. This is where I get to know you — how you met, what makes you smile, your favourite places, the proposal, your families, your funny anecdotes — and we explore what you’d like in your ceremony: readings, words, songs, poems, and whether you’d like my help with your vows or want to write your own. Essentially, all the lovely things that make you, you.
  2. Couples Questionnaires – Sent after our first meeting to gather even more detail. You each fill these out separately, so I get both of your perspectives.
  3. The First Ceremony Script – Once I’ve received your answers, I go away and work my magic — bringing your journey together into a memorable script, along with a ceremony structure so you can get a feel for how the day will flow.
  4. Feedback and Revisions – You share your thoughts, and we refine it together until it’s exactly right.
  5. Final Draft – Delivered no later than two months before your wedding.
  6. Liaising With Your Venue and Suppliers – In the final two months, I’ll coordinate with your venue and suppliers, especially your photographer — so everyone’s aligned on the day.
  7. Officiating on Your Big Day – The most special moment of all. I get to tell your story, your way, exactly as you want it told.

How Much Does a Wedding Celebrant Cost – and What About the Registrar?

A registrar will charge a fair sum to come to your venue and conduct the legal ceremony, which is why venues hold licences specifically for that purpose. Keep in mind a licence usually covers a specific part of the building, not the whole venue.

For example, in my local authority of Waltham Forest, approved-venue prices (i.e. having a registrar come to you) range from £595–£895, depending on the day and time — Saturdays cost more than Mondays, and Bank Holidays can run as high as £1,500.

A ceremony at Fellowship Square, a beautiful Art Deco building in Walthamstow, ranges from £270–£1,700 during the week and £470–£2,000 at weekends, depending on the room.

However, if you have a no-frills ceremony at your local register office, it can cost as little as £62 in my authority — a genuine bargain. Some couples choose to do this quietly, a couple of weeks before the big day, with a small group, then save the meaningful, personal ceremony for the celebration at their chosen venue. You don’t even need to exchange rings at the register office — it’s not a legal requirement.

This paves the way to work on your bespoke ceremony with a celebrant. My ceremonies start at £950.

How to Choose Your Wedding Celebrant: 3 Simple Steps

  1. Choose your venue. Once this is sorted, the world is your oyster.
  2. Choose your celebrant. Do your research — every celebrant brings something different to the table. I trained as an actor, so I bring a theatrical streak and a bit of (good) drama to your day.
  3. Book a call. I offer a free, no-obligation call to see if we’re the right fit for each other — it goes both ways.
